How many times have you done the laundry and cried because you didn't have a clothes washer at home? A clothes washer can change your life. No more bruised hands and wrinkled fingers. Sure, clothes washers are expensive, but their many features are definitely well worth the long line of zeros on the price tag.

A clothes washer (also known as a washing machine or simply a washer) is a device used to wash and clean laundry, such as towels, clothing, and sheets. It uses a spinning motion to deep clean linens soaked in a mixture of water and cleaning detergent, as opposed to scrubbing the fabric like in hand washing. A clothes washer is actually safer to use on clothes. As long as you follow the correct water temperature and the right amount of detergent in the wash, the clothes will make it out of the washer just fine.

This machine can be either be a household or commercial appliance. Household clothes washers are smaller for space convenience and are less sturdy, but they still function well despite their cheaper price tags. In Europe and the Middle East , the front loading design is more popular, though the top loading design is much preferred throughout the rest of the world. Critics say the front loading design is the better of the two models. You might want to keep that in mind when buying a clothes washer.

Washing Machine Buying Tips:

* Look for an energy efficient or high-efficiency model (Electricity is NOT a renewable resource)

* Think about water usage (in general front loading clothes washers use less water then top loading)

* The number of different washing options isn't so much as important as the cycles that you will actually use so look for one that has the washing options that you are going to use the majority of the time

* Think about the amount of space that the washing machine is going to take up as front loading designs typically take up more space then top loading ones

* Compare manufacturer warranties as a washing machine is considered a major appliance and therefore preventing costly repair bills in the future can be prevented with a solid warranty

* The number of loads you or your family does in a week will help you determine how big of a clothes washer you need. A family of 6 with small kids is probably going to do a lot more then a family of 4 with grownups.

Most commercial clothes washers have sturdier and more compact models. These machines are usually fitted with a stainless steel body kit to protect it from corrosion and rust in a constantly moist environment, and many feature front loading designs. If you haven't seen a commercial clothes washer, you can find one at the nearest laundromat center in your area.

Pressure Washer vs Power Washer

You have probably already learned that "power" is synonymous with "pressure" when searching for information about high-pressure cleaning equipment and services. What you may not know is that one of these terms is more commonly used than the other. This can be relevant to businesses for their online marketing campaigns and to consumers in their search for information.

On average, in the United States, the term "pressure washer" is approximately three times more likely to be searched for on the internet than "power washer". So, if your business is only using the term "power" on its website, blog, online store, and pay-per-click program, it is likely missing out on 75% of searchers and potential buyers. Companies wanting to reach the majority of these people with a minimum amount of work should market their cleaning equipment and services using the term "pressure". Ideally though, the optimal marketing campaign would target both terms to ensure the organization is reaching all consumers searching for pressure (or power) related cleaning services and supplies.

While this is true of the national average, companies should also research and consider the regional differences in how people search in each market. In several Southeastern states, for instance, people use the term "pressure washer" almost exclusively, with only about 1 in 10 searchers looking for a "power washer". Conversely, in some Midwestern and Northern states, the ratio of "pressure" to "power" is almost even, with roughly 6 of 10 searchers seeking "pressure washing" as opposed to 4 of 10 looking for "power washing". In places like Phoenix, Arizona where there is a melting pot of people from all over the nation, the ratios are more consistent with the national averages of one search for "power washers" to every 3 searches for "pressure washers".

Beneath the Bonnet

Haven't looked underneath the bonnet of your car for quite some time? Just like our own need for water, a car needs oil, various fluids and regular maintenance. Read our beneath the bonnet guide, grab the following items from your local motor factors and get working!

What you'll need to do:

1) Oil Check

2) Engine oil check

3) Engine Coolant check

4) Power Steering Fluid check

5) Brake Fluid check

6) Window Washer Fluid check

1) Oil Check; In order to check the engine oil you are going to have to use the dipstick. The dipstick is normally located to the front of the engine on all cars. It is used to check the level of engine oil. Always make sure to park your car on level ground when doing this. How you check the level of oil, is by removing the dipstick. You should then wipe the metal end of it with some tissue. Place the dipstick back into its holder, and pull it back out again. Observe the end of the dipstick. There should be a line indicating the level that oil should be at. If it is below the line obviously, you have to top up oil, and should do so immediately. If it is above the line, you can resume driving and will not need to top-up.

2) Engine oil is a fantastic substance. It keeps your car's engine running smoothly, oiling the interior components and ensuring that it does not seize. Believe it or not, a UCPG survey has shown that one in three cars on Irish roads is low on oil. You should make sure to check the level of oil in your car every month. After you have checked it (see oil check), you might need to top it up. How you do this is by removing the engine-oil cap. We would recommend that each time you top up the oil, try and use the same brand name and make every time. Add a little oil into the engine and then wait one minute for it to settle inside. Re-check your dipstick, and add accordingly if it is not at the correct level, and requires more. When the level is correct, screw the cap back on and make sure you have slotted the dipstick back in place. You should not have to replace oil frequently. If you do, the engine could be leaking.

3) Radiator coolant is a mixture of water and coolant that is pumped around the engine and cools it with the help of the radiator. To check the coolant level you will have to find the reservoir where the water/coolant mixture is stored and dropped in. When you find the reservoir, next you will have to see if it is at the correct level. On the outside of the reservoir there will be wither a line or two lines indicating what level the coolant should be at. If there is only one line, the level should be at the line. If there are two lines the level of liquid coolant mixture should be between the lines. If it is even slightly below the lines we suggest you top it up straight away. You will obviously have to purchase some coolant first. You will have to mix it with water, at a ratio of 50% water, 50% coolant. Remove the reservoir cap and add the mix accordingly.

4) Power steering fluid Before checking your power steering fluid, you should run the car first for a few minutes to warm up the engine. Make sure as always that it is parked on level ground to gain an accurate reading. Turn the engine off. Again open up your bonnet and find where the power steering fluid reservoir is located. Remove the reservoir cap, which will usually have a small dipstick attached to it. Using the dipstick check the level of fluid. The level should be within the range indicated on your stick. Top up the fluid using whatever type is recommended in your cars owner's manual.

5) Brake Fluid; In similar fashion to the radiator coolant reservoir, there is a brake fluid reservoir and it has a marker to show how much fluid should be in the braking system. To check the brake fluid level, refer to this marker and top up accordingly. On the reservoir cap, a marking will read out either DOT 3 or DOT 4. What is written on the cap is the type of brake fluid you will have to use. When buying the fluid, ask for the DOT that your car requires. Again, top up the fluid accordingly. Check around the brake disc area of the wheels for signs of leaking fluid after putting the fluid in.

6) Window washer fluid is something that we all should have changed at least once in our motoring lives. Window washer fluid, as suggested by its name is used to wash the windscreen and is a mixture of mainly water and washer fluid. The windscreen washer bottle should prove the easiest part to locate beneath the bonnet. It generally will have a marking similar to that in the picture.

Note: Location of the above discussed applications will differ with different car manufacturers and models. The above engine picture should help you to locate them.

The Right Kind of Pressure Washer

There's something fun about using a pressure washer. Its like having a high powered squirt gun except you use it to clean things with. Save money by washing your own car,boat, even your home but make sure you get the right tool for the job.

Pressure washers are rated in psi. or pounds per square inch and the biggest problem for people who go out and buy them is they don't get one with enough power. A minimum of 2800 psi is needed for washing most cars.

You can get a pressure washer in almost any configuration you want. There are gasoline driven pressure washers and electric motor driven ones. The more expensive ones even have oil or propane fired heaters that let you wash with hot water which is ideal for making an engine look brand new, and the top of the line ones can even put out steam.

Besides washing your car and saving money on all those coin operated car washes, you can blast off that dirty driveway, clean the outside of your house, make short work of clearing out your gutters, and cleaning patio furniture and around swimming pools is a breeze with a pressure washer. You can even start your own business by getting a pressure washer and mounting it on a utility trailer along with a generator and water tank.

Fix A Leaking Outside Water Faucet

Sometimes you run across a leaking spicket that is on the outside of the house. If you live in the city, this could increase your water bill not by much but still an increase. If you live out in the country this might increase the electric bill because the well keeps on running to provide that water.

Depending on the type of spicket that you have will depend on the fix. If you have a standard compression spicket, which usually has the round metal handle on it, the leak may be coming from the handle stem, if so all you have to do it tighten the packing nut that is buy the handle. To do this just take a wrench and tight the packing nut around the stem. Now if that doesn't fix it, and the handle is still leaking, or that the leak is coming from the spot, we are going to have to take the take the spicket apart.

To do this we want to start off by shutting off the water to the spicket. This is done usually in the basement or crawl space. Now if your house is on a concrete slab there is one of two things you can do. One is shut the water main off to the entire house, or if you are lucky and the plumbers installed a shut off for that spicket, which they most likely didn't do, you can turn that off. The same goes if you don't have a shut off in the basement for the spicket, you have to shut off the main to the house. Now the main to the house will have a large meter on it known as, you got it the water meter. There will be some sort of valve near it. Warning! DON'T SHUT THE VALVE OFF THAT GOES INTO THE METER. This will get you into a lot of trouble it tampered with. The valve that we want is on the out of the water meter.

With the water shut off, its time to get to work. Now go outside and turn and open the valve to release and water that is in the pipes from the inside valve to the spicket. If you had to shut the main off go every fixture in the house and open them to release the water and the go to the spicket and open it. This will remove any water from the house and then you don't have to work with water coming at you by surprise.

Now, if the stem is leaking we are going to want to remove that part from the spicket. To do that, we are going to need an adjustable wrench. Behind that packing nut there is a spot that you can place an adjustable wrench and unscrew the assembly. Completely unscrew that packing assembly and remove it from the spicket. Now we are going to want to get to the packing nut washer. To do this we need to unscrew the handle on the assembly. There should be a nut or screw on top of the handle that you can unscrew. Unscrew it and remove the handle.

Next you are going to want to unscrew and remove the packing nut. Inside the nut you are going to find some type of washer, either a Rubber packing washer or graphite packing string. Remove either and replace with a new matching one. Now if you can't find a matching washer for the packing nut, you can use graphite sting. Wrap the string around the stem and the push the packing washer over it and tighten it down. You can do this by using a flat blade screw driver. The reverse the steps, first by reinstalling the packing nut, put the handle on the assembly, put the assembly back in to the spicket, and tighten.

Now if the spicket was leaking from the spout, all beginning steps are the same to get the assembly out of the spicket. Then you are going to want to replace the compression washer that is on the bottom of the assembly. Unscrew the nut that holds it in place and replace the washer with it exact match size and shape. Re-screw the screw back on to the assembly to hold the washer. Then reinstall the assembly back into the spicket. With the spicket reinstalled it is safe to turn the water back on. Make sure that all the faucets in the house that you opened are closed first.

Liebherr Upright Freezer Review

The upright freezers from Liebherr are all energy- saving appliances and allow all the frozen food to be easily accommodated and make food storage convenient. The Crazy Future of the Washing Machine

The washing machine. It's a pretty regular thing. White. Square. Not usually the type of object that anyone could get excited about. Until now, that is. It just so happens that the last few years have seen some crazy advances in the industry, and the future looks even more interesting. So what's up in the world of the washer?

LG Washer and Ironing Machine.

In 2006, Korean electrical giants LG announced the arrival of a washing machine that can iron as well as wash. By incorporating a unique hot steam system that starts after the rinse cycle, the creases that develop during washing are quickly eradicated, not only saving you time on ironing, but also meaning that your clothes will never shrink again. The machine is also available with a floral pattern to further stand out from the washer crowd.

Eco Egg

The Eco Egg, developed by the Chinese company Jiangmen Hanyu Electrical, is a curious thing. As the name suggests, this mini-washer is egg-shaped, pink and looks edible. The manufacturers are proud of its environmentally-friendly and its disinfecting function making it safer for cleaning baby clothes. It also means that instead of having to wait for a full load, one or two shirts can be washed whilst still being eco-friendly.

Whirlpool Mobile Phone Washing Machine

Another in a long line of 'smart' goods, Whirlpool have developed a washer that can be controlled by SMS. By using a home network, the machine alerts you if it has stopped by either sending a message to your mobile, TV or computer. The few graphic representations that have been released show the machine attached to two walls in the corner of a bathroom of the future. But it remains to be seen that when the design comes to fruition, whether it will be able to carry the weight of wet clothes or will be able to be mounted on any kind of wall without breaking it when in use.

The Washup Washer/Toilet

The Washup is another future design. In simple terms it is a washing machine and toilet in one. The machine sits atop the cistern and once it has finished washing, uses the water from your dirty clothes to flush the toilet. The design is also space-saving and easier to use without any crouching or bending down involved.

Xeros

Finally, the University of Leeds has been testing a machine to be released in 2009. Amazingly, the full-size machine uses just a cupful of water in addition to plastic chips that absorb any dirt and are collected at the end of the cycle. Clothes are nearly dry as soon as the cycle is finished.
